Vision and action for health promotion in Latin American countries
Objective:
To analyze the policies, strategies and alternatives to face the Challenges of Health Promotion in Latin America from the perspective of governments, non-government organizations and community.
Strengthening social strategies in response to challenges in some sectors and governments of Latin America in order to develop appropriate Health Promotion approaches in times of global economic crisis.
Key messages / key questions:
In the context of Latin America, a paradigm shift in approaches from governments in their efforts to pursue social justice and equity in opportunities for various population groups has been occurring in recent years. Speakers will express their views and share experiences in a wider discussion and roundtable on points such as:
- What are the existing approaches that are visible and discernible in the health promotion platform and program strategies for each of the participating countries?
- What are the main constraints and obstacles being faced for the tangible fulfilment of the prerequisites for health promotion as outlined in the Ottawa Charter?
- How can the strategies for addressing the social determinants of health be better organized?
- What are the main weaknesses and threats to meeting the health promotion strategies that have been encountered or identified?
- How can a collaborative network contribute to achieving the goals and objectives?
- How can community participation be mobilized?
- What are the health promotion strategies with the media in the global society (newspapers, radio, internet and television)?
